I chose to do my censorship project on the Chinese governmental censorship. Xi Jinping recently declared himself the "President for Life" in China. This level of blatant dictatorship is pretty sad and disgusting, and I wanted to make a piece criticizing China's governmental control. Winnie the Pooh was censored from the internet after there were images comparing Xi Jinping and Winnie, so I made Xi Jinping into Winnie the Pooh and put a black bar over his eyes. The words in the background are words that are censored on the Chinese internet. Some notable words are "disagree" and "shameless," which were words that were censored after there was disagreement over his appointment as life long president. The rays of red, the Chinese flag, and the noise filter are how I tried to make this piece feel more like an old time propaganda poster.
